MICRO PALOOZA
Y'All Come Now, Hear?
by Dave Moorman
The first ever Commodore Micro-
Palooza will happen in Portland, OR on
December 30, 2003!
The PLACE is a retro-arcade called
Ground Kontrol, at 610 SW 12th Ave.,
Portland, OR. (See the Run It for a
map.)
The TIME -- 1 PM to 10 PM.
The COST -- $3 for C= People (to
help pay for the band).
Besides C=Luminaries -- such as
Jeri Ellsworth, Robert Bernado, and
Yours Truly -- we will rock to the
serious SID sounds of [8 Bit Weapon]
-- and perhaps other 8-bit music
makers.
The Micro-Palooza is more of a
Gathering than an Expo. We'll have
numerous C-64's and other C= gear up
and running with plenty of games and
demos. And we'll have a Palooza of pop
and pizza and talk: Lots of C= People
sharing joys and frustrations -- plus
folks off the street, curious about
what's going on.
Ground Kontrol is an old-fashion
video arcade with all the classic
coin-ops to bring back great memories.
The machines will be pushed back to
give a crowd of 70 or so room to
Commodore to our hearts content.
The band -- 8 Bit Weapon -- plays
c-64's and Amigas, making the SID's
sing! Other 8-bit bands are also lined
up to provide extraordinary
entertainment.
And LOADSTAR is right there in the
middle of it! I say "is" because the
whole lolla-palooza began with our
decision to go to Portland this
Christmas to visit our son and
daughter-in-law. I figured I might
have time to get together some of you
Northwesters during our stay.
But the week before the Chicago
Expo, I got talking with Robert
Bernardo on the phone. I mentioned
going to Portland. Robert had just
been up there visiting Jeri Ellsworth
and others. They, too, were thinking
of some sort of Northwest gathering --
and everything clicked.
Robert knew about Ground Kontrol
and 8 Bit Weapon. More importantly, he
got on the phone with both and began
negotiating arrangements. He also has
contacted clubs all up and down the
Coast, telling about the event.
We realize this is all on very
short notice -- and the Tuesday after
Christmas is not necessarily a great
day for schedules. But such things are
buggaboos only to people who think the
C-64 is obsolete!
We'll be there -- and hope anyone
from the Rockies west and the Bay
north (and of course anyone from
anywhere else!) will make this unique
Commodore Pilgramage!
See you in Portland!
